-I was told that Avast! is freeware but it asks for registration. I would like to know if it really is freeware and if it isn't, please tell me if there is a good AND free anti virus software.Yes for the basic set up it is free. You go on to the website and register then they send you a key (long number) which you then type in on home page and then you get free updates etc. I think you can install before you register and get a months use. Sorry but did this a while ago and have had free virus free use for about five years now. My company's IT Manager put me on to it so must be good. When I set up a new machine I usually have forgotten my registration number so apply for a new one, I think I have about five now!
Cheers Wiz.Yes, it is free. Registration is simple & you don't get bombarded with junk email. It's a good AV, I've been using it for years. Every now & then it will ask you if you want the Pro upgrade but it's no hassle to decline & just go on using it free.
Yes it's free. There is the free version and the one that costs. Make sure you get the free one on their site. I have the free version of Avast right now.
I had Avast on my old PC. It was free for a long time but not forever.
